Studying and learning about self-improvement and leadership, one of the concepts that I have been learned about doing things in 90-day cycles. You can do anything for 90 days if you commit to it. The first 30 days gets you in the habit, the second 30 days starts the progress and the last 30 days is the real explosion.
This is something that I’ve tried and talked about a lot. However, it is something that I have had a lot of trouble following through until completion. I have thought about it and beat myself up about it and have decided that maybe I am having too narrow of a focus on the 90-day cycle. So starting with June 1, I am making a commitment to spend my summer making a conscious effort to spend 90-day to improving in ALL areas of my life. One thing that I am going to do is turn off the TV and spend that time doing other things, such as, studying, reading, and working on things that will grow my business.
The first step will be to spend this coming week thinking about the things that I want to accomplish and writing them down. I will then be able to set up an written game plan on how to accomplish these goals.
This commitment is going to cover all areas of my life, not just one area or a group of areas. As Covey puts it, I am looking for a balance (Synergy) in my life. The areas that I am going to look at are home (as a husband and father), work, spiritual, leader, self-improvement (including reading and blogging), encourager.
While I am on this 90-day journey, I will post my successes and set-backs on my blog. I am looking for more consistent and better posts that will make us all think.
Would anyone like to join me on this journey? Then we would have a friend that would be there to help keep us accountable. Again, we start June 1 and go to September 1. (Yeah, I know it is a few days more than 90 days, but we can extend ourselves, right?)
