Exercise for a better you. (and you don’t have to leave the chair)

Andy Andrews poses the question in his book “The Noticer”, “What would other people change about you if they could?”  This is such a tough question to answer individually for me.  What about you?  So what did I do about it you ask.  Well, I have decided that I would get input from some friends that I trust will give me an honest answer.  I asked these people to be honest with me and not worry about my feelings.  I assured them that just telling me the truth would go a long way to helping me become a better person.

The results of this were interesting to me and actually weren’t that shocking.  I was prepared for these people to unload on me, because honestly, I gave them the chance.  What I found is that they basically said the same things and that what they would change were things that should be easy to improve and keep in my mind to work on.

In two of my conversations with friends, this discussion lead to an exercise of both of us doing assessments of my strengths and weaknesses.  This was a great exercise for me to go through and it opened my eyes and made me think about some areas that I need to grow myself.

To be honest, this was something that I was actually scared to do because it is really outside my comfort zone.  However, by the time I left after talking with the last friend, I had such a great feeling of confidence and a clearer focus for what I need to do.

I have come away from this with that focus and a new perspective about my friends and my life.  Besides what I need to change and grow, I have learned that I have some great friends and “circle of influence” as John Maxwell would say.

Thanks for reading.
