This week in my readings, I ran across a quote that is really good and thought that I would share it and my thoughts. The quote is by William Sloane Coffin and says “I love the recklessness of faith. First you leap, and then you grow wings.”
This is such a true statement. You have to have the faith in everything you do, but the first step is to just get started doing it. There are a lot of things in each of our lives that we would like to do, have or become, but a lot of times there is also something stopping us. What is that? Fear! But really isn’t fear just the absence of Faith?
What is the next step that you must do in order to get what you are wanting? Break it down and then do that very next action. Take that leap of faith and feel how good it will make you feel. It’s that sense of accomplishment and pride and energy that you get that is waiting on the other side of your fear. I liken this to riding a rollercoaster. Most of us have that sense of fear and anxiety when we first get on and start that accent, but once you are going, the adrenaline kicks in and you want to ride it again.
I have found that fear is the same way. Once you take action, and get past that initial stage then you feel great about the specific thing you are trying to accomplish. For example, I have put off writing in my blog because, I fear that I have nothing to say or add to anyone, but once I post a blog, I feel great and that I can actually help encourage someone else.
Again, I challenge you to change your thinking a little and really spend some time thinking about what you want and then breaking through that fear threshold and take action. We are all put on this earth to do something special, but no one said that it would be easy. Have the faith and go get your dreams, I know I am.
